Abstract

The nuclear reactor research community is interested in charged aerosol dynamics in a confined environment. Various aerosol charging theories described for bipolar and unipolar ion field exposures are reviewed using experimental measurements with PSL aerosols and ELPI. The (n+/n-) ratio of bipolar ions marginally increases as more negative ions get attached to aerosols. The charge level obtained from generation reduces under bipolar ion field but increases enormously under unipolar ion field. The charged aerosol concentration decay is not changed significantly under bipolar ion field when compared to the baseline condition but enhanced by more than one order under unipolar ion field.
