Abstract

The first Born and ECPSSR theories are tested by comparison with experimental K-shell X-ray production cross sections for X-ray energies less than 1 keV. These data are reported here for incident hydrogen, helium, and lithium ions in the energy range 0.5 to 5 MeV with use of a windowless Si(Li) X-ray detector. It was found that the first Born theory seems to match at high energies, but it falls well below the data at low energies. The ECPSSR theory gives much better agreement with the data for the entire energy range studied. Comparisons with data obtained from previous investigations are discussed.
