Abstract

ABSTRACT A charge simulation modeling of a three phase power cable with non-symmetrical conductor arrangements is conducted in this paper. The three-phase conductors carry three sinusoidal currents in a steady state and balanced conditions. The non-symmetrically conductors arrangement has been made by moving one conductor of the symmetrical arrangement in the X and Y directions. The displacements from the original symmetrical position are related to the conductor radius in order to have a relative information about the position of this conductor. Each conductor and the sheath are simulated by a discrete number of complex line charges. Both symmetrical and nonsymmetrical conductor arrangements are examined taking into consideration the real geometrical cable properties. It is found that the charge simulation technique with complex fictitious charges leads to valuable and accurate solutions of the steady state field problem in a three-phase power cable with non-symmetrical conductor arrangement.
