Abstract
A popular hardwood tree and a Chinese traditional medicine, Erythrophleum fordii has been heavily exploited. It is listed in the Plant Red Data Books of China and Vietnam, and is considered as ‘Endangered’ in the IUCN Red List. Here we report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of E. fordii assembled from Illumina sequencing data. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of E. fordii was 160,116 bp in length, with a large single-copy region of 89,306 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,622 bp, separated by a pair of inverted repeats of 26,094 bp each. A total of 129 genes, including 84 protein coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes were predicted. Phylogenetic analysis based on the complete chloroplast genome sequences of nine species within the family Fabaceae showed that E. fordii was nested within the subfamily Caesalpinioideae.
