Abstract
Hydrocarbons from a new strain of the green microalga Botryococcus braunii, the Yayoi strain, were characterized. Normal phase high pressure liquid chromatography on a silver nitrate-coated silica gel column was effective to isolate the hydrocarbons. Chemical structures of a C34 and two novel C33 botryococcene isomers, in addition to known hydrocarbons, were elucidated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
