Abstract
In the present work, we have tried to characterize the graphite surface which experienced the thermal shock by an e-beam and NBI test, utilizing a laser Raman micro-probe analysis. All the Raman spectra of the irradiated area show very weak peak of 1355 cm −1 irrespective of the types of graphite, indicating that the very high heat load makes the temperature of the irradiated surface area above the graphitization temperature. On the other hand the unirradiated area gives the quite local Raman spectra depending on the distance from the irradiated area as well as test condition, which is attributed to the redeposition of eroded material. And the Raman technique is found to be very useful to characterize the redeposited material, which are more or less amorphous but the degree of amorphization (or graphitization) is changed depending on the position and temperature of the redeposited place.
