Abstract

Flax fiber based biocomposite is mainly used in agricultural, construction and automobile industries. The aim of this work was to investigate how Polylactic acid (PLA) would reinforce with flax fiber and to find out mechanical and physical properties of PLA biocomposites with three different percentages of flax fiber. The flax fiber was chemically treated by alkaline and silane treatment. Three different percentages (2%, 5%, and 10%) of flax fiber were properly mixed with PLA using extrusion as compounding process. The composite was manufactured by using injection molding machine. The test samples were cut out from the composite as per ASTM standards. Mechanical properties of the biocomposites were studied by tensile and three point bending test. Water absorption test was been carried out to study the mass increase and stability of the composite material
