Abstract

The crystallographic quality of Ba 1− x K x BiO 3 single crystals grown by electrochemical methods has been investigated by using ion channeling methods in detail. Well-shaped cubic crystals are obtained and the size of the crystals is large enough for the ion channeling measurements. It is revealed that the quality of the crystals is strongly affected by extrinsic growth conditions. When the crystal is grown under very tranquil environment, the quality of the crystal is drastically improved. Degradation of crystallinity in the surface region is observed. Chemical etching with Br 2CH 3OH is effective to remove the damaged surface layers.
