Abstract

From last few decades technology was more advancing and a lot of new products are introducing, for every new application we need new materials that exhibits new properties for this in the year 1980′s scientists proposed a method named Functionally Graded Material (FGM). By this FGM we can fabricate different components which can vary properties along the body of the component. In this study, the Copper based composites which reinforced with Silicon Carbide was fabricated with varying SiC Wt.% from 0 to 12, with differing of 2% each. Hardness, density and wear tests are done on these samples. The results are found that the gradual increment is found hardness value and wear resistance and observed decremental in density values. Then the Cu-SiC stepwise FGM was fabricated and made hardness test perpendicular to the layers of the FGM. The results near exact to the results of composites.
