Abstract

Optical properties of nanocrystalline films of CdSe prepared by chemical bath deposition technique are studied as a function of molar concentration. Analyses of the transmittance spectra over 350–900 nm photon wavelengths of CdSe films indicates the existence of direct optical transition. A blue shift of absorption edge was observed which indicates a decrease in crystallite size. The optical band gap (Eg) was found to be in the range of 1.93–2.10 eV for as-prepared films. After annealing the band gap was found to decrease. The crystallite size was found in the range of 3.34–4.99 nm using the effective mass approximation model. Different optical parameters such as absorption coefficient, refractive index, extinction coefficient, optical conductivity, dielectric constants were determined from the transmittance spectra.
