Abstract

The chapter discusses the characteristics of wind load and wind-resistant design of membrane structure canopy roof of a large-scale stadium. Based on the wind tunnel investigation of the membrane structure canopy roof of a stadium, the characteristics of wind load and the static wind effects of the typical membrane canopy are studied in the chapter. Using pressure data of the wind tunnel test directly, the static wind effect is analyzed in detail. Test result of the wind tunnel test shows that the negative wind load action on the leading edge of the canopy roof is the largest and becomes the dominating load for the membrane structure canopy. The effects of initial prestress of the membrane and the wind-resistance cable are also involved in the analysis. The results indicated in the chapter can be used as reference for these kinds of structures.
