Abstract

The description of a laminar wavy film flow by Kapitza and the later description by Lee were extended to include the effects of interfacial shear stress and external pressure drop. A concise general relation was developed for calculating the average wavy film thickness under the influences of waviness and interfacial shear. It was indicated that for a given shear parameter the contributions of interfacial shear and interfacial waviness are independent and can be estimated separately. Some implications for heat transfer in thin wavy films in the presence of interfacial shear were also indicated.
