Abstract
Venous leg ulcers (VLU) are defined as “open skin lesions of the leg or foot that occur in an area affected by venous hypertension” and is the most common cause of chronic leg wounds. However, the clinical presentation and characteristics of VLUs are not well-defined. Causes for venous hypertension can include venous reflux, obstruction, elevated central venous pressures owing to obesity, increased interstitial pressures, compromised lymphatics, dependent edema, and calf muscle dysfunction. This study was performed to characterize the multifactorial VLUs in patients being treated at a tertiary wound care center.
