Abstract

Livestock is an important and potential agricultural sub-sector in Aceh Province. Because of the climate and social conditions of the community, this business is able to increase the income of farmers. This study used primary data from 400 farmer respondents and secondary data from library research. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of cattle husbandry management in Aceh province. The results of this descriptive research showed that livestock farming in Aceh was dominated by smallholder farms that were not yet legal entities with relatively low levels of farmer education. Farming activities were generally only used as a side activity with a cow rearing system that was still semi-intensive. In this context, cows tended to look for forage that extended from nature. The number of livestock owned by the farmers ranged from 2 to 4 individuals, either privately owned or in the form of mawah (profit sharing). Generally, the types of cattle raised were Aceh cattle and exotic cattle.
