Abstract

The development of the personality of medical managers, especially the managementstyle, is an important condition for the management effectiveness of medical institutions.Leadership styles reflect the systems of methods, techniques and behaviour that guideactivities as a whole and are typical for the leaders of health care institutions.The aim of the study – to determine management styles in conflict situations amongmedical workers and to justify the role and place of the leader in the effective managementof a medical institution.Materials and methods. The opinion of 582 medical workers (422 (72,5%) doctors and160 (27,5%) nurses) in hospitals and primary care centers of Chernivtsi region was studiedin the research by means of direct individual survey (anonymous individual interview).The questionnaire was aimed at an in-depth study of conflict situations in medical teams,allowing participants to express their opinion freely, without pressure.Results. The main management styles, peculiar to the personality of the medical managerare highlighted: authoritarian, liberal and democratic, which are formed in the processof activity and are able to change during working activity, they can be adjusted anddeveloped, taking into account cultural values, individual characteristics and traditionsof the medical organization. It has beens established that in a conflict situation, the leaders of medical institutionsare characterized by an authoritarian style that does not involve collective nature andany objections from employees (for doctors – 69,2%, nurses – 28,4%); the subordinatebehaviour style is the most typical for deputy managers (doctors – 30,6%, nurses – 60,2%),and aggressive style(16,4%) is observed among nurse managers.Conclusion. It has been established that the management style of the head of a medicalorganization is a purely individual phenomenon, which is determined by the specificcharacteristics of a concrete individual, reflects work peculiarities with colleagues andpatients, as well as the decision- making technology of this individual.
