Abstract

This article presents the results of an exploratory study of the leaders of a group of lesbian and gay radical street activists in a northwest metropolitan area. The characteristics of the activists and their motivations for participation in high-risk activism are examined. The results indicate a number of areas in which the activists showed similarities, including a family history of activism, personal characteristics, pioneering, and awareness of oppression.
