Abstract

The transgender and gender diverse (TGD) population have suicide rates approximately nine times greater than the general population. The gender affirming care model proposed in this case study is based on college-enrolled emerging adults and derived from the complimentary theories of gender minority stress theory and dialectical behavior therapy to integrate a TGD-centered approach that aims to reduce suicidality while increasing gender congruence. It also highlights how higher education administration and practitioners could be more responsive in their interactions and support for the TGD community to reduce suicidality and improve overall mental health.
