Abstract
Purpose: The term “dehydration resistance” is frequently used in connection with contact lens materials but there is no agreed assessment technique. On one hand the absolute mass or the relative proportion of water lost has been proposed, and on the other the change that water loss induces in the resultant lens surface. An additional approach, suggested for silicone hydrogel lenses, is measurement of “water binding” characteristics of the fully hydrated lens. This poster compares the meaning and potential clinical relevance of various approaches.
