Abstract

Abstract Using a eutectic mix of NaCl and KCl as a molten flux, large single crystals of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7- δ have been grown successfully . Energy dispersive X-ray analysis using a Jeol scanning electron microscope system confirmed the composition of the crystals to be YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7- δ . Subsequently two of these crystals have been studied using the neutron diffraction facilities attached t o the HIFAR reactor at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, NSW. Using the 2 TANA and 2 TANB single-crystal diffractometers, various scans were done to investigate crystal quality and twin formation.
