Abstract
This chapter discusses several diagnostic tests and procedures to determine the level of well integrity on a well. These can be used on any well, but the need for firmly establishing, or re-establishing, well integrity on mature wells is emphasized. Some older wells have known defects, such as partially collapsed casing and small downhole leaks. If the secondary barrier system can prevent environmental discharges at the surface, these leaks are sometimes tolerated rather than repaired. Various non-destructive tests and tools are reviewed along with their theory and application. Most of these involve some level of risk and cost. Both must be determined in advance of a workover or recompletion to ensure that the well integrity assessment provides the proper level of confidence without making the job economically infeasible.
