Abstract
This chapter discusses longitudinal fins and twisted tapes within ducts. Longitudinal fins within ducts are widely used in compact heat exchanger applications. Such ducts are also referred to as internally finned tubes. The chapter presents the analysis of laminar fully developed convection in tubes with longitudinal rectangular and triangular fins, employing some simplified idealizations. In the chapter, the fin efficiency is considered as 100% for all fin geometries, except for the twisted tapes. For the flow area evaluation, the fin thickness is considered as zero for all longitudinal thin fins. These idealizations are needed to make the problem amenable to mathematical analysis.
