Abstract

Operating experience of high-voltage transmission lines testifies to the fact that, in the majority of cases of short-circuit on overhead lines, the tripping of the faulty section and its automatic reclosure ensures that the line is maintained in operation; the electric arc at the point of short-circuit is extinguished by the tripping of the line and on automatic reclosure of the line it does not rise again. Cases of unsuccessful automatic reclosure of high-voltage lines do not arise when the short-circuit remains. These are the cases of broken conductors that have fallen to the ground. Single-phase tripping in conjunction with single-phase automatic reclosure increases the maximum transmission of power on the line permissible with the same duration of cycle of three-phase automatic reclosure from the point of view of stable transmission. When similar powers are transmitted on the line, single-phase automatic reclosure makes it possible to increase the duration of the tripping state without losing stability in comparison with three-phase automatic reclosure.
