Abstract
Insect diversity is the evolutionary basis that enables species adaptation and survival, but also the essential pillar of ecosystem services and homeostasis. In this chapter, we discuss four types of diversity (genetic, behavioral, species, and ecosystem) and justify their relevance to insect conservation. We focus on behavioral variability because of its cryptic relevance, which is often neglected. We discuss the weight that insect diversity has in our lives and how this determines their conservation status.
