Abstract

Recently quantum dots (QDs) have gained significant interests as promising materials for quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) because of their unique optoelectronic properties. However, the low light conversion efficiency (LCE) and the large use of toxic Cd-, Pb-free quantum dots (QDs) have been considered as the major barrier for the intensive development of QDSSCs. This has led to the search for an alternative low-cost and nontoxic ternary quantum dots for improving LCE efficiency. Herein, this chapter provides a review on recent report in ternary quantum dots-based QDSSCs including: (1) Advanced high-efficiency solar cell concepts, (2) Manufacturing of QDSSCs, and (3) Ternary QDS compounds for QDSSCs. The final section summarizes the review with future outlook and perspectives of ternary quantum dots based QSSCs.
