Abstract

This concluding chapter analyses how the Fish Stocks Agreement has been implemented and/or codified in the constituting agreements and practices of five regional fisheries management regimes. The five regional fisheries management regimes include: Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO), North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC), Joint Russian- Norwegian Fisheries Commission, South East Atlantic Fisheries Organization (SEAFO), and Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC). Four out of five of the regional fisheries management regimes are formal organizations, while the Joint Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission is a bilateral arrangement. Decision-making procedures have long impeded the effectiveness of regional fisheries management regimes. Keywords: North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC); Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO); South East Atlantic Fisheries Organization (SEAFO); WCPFC
