Abstract

This chapter introduces some interface capturing methods in grid-based and particle-based computational fluid dynamics methods. The methods of volume-of-fluid, level-set, and front-tracking for interface capture are introduced. Compared with the grid-based method, particle method has the advantages of capturing fluid-free surfaces and interfaces without special treatment. Two prevailing particle methods, smooth particle hydrodynamics method and moving particle semi-implicit method, are comparatively introduced with the emphasis on their differences. Finally the points that need further study to improve the reliability of particle method are summarized.
