Abstract

This chapter discusses physical characteristics and shows illustration of different species, including Stegosaurus, Carnotaurus, Shunosaurus, Dicraeosaurus Camarasaurus, Allosaurus fragilis, Apatosaurus, Monolophosaurus jiangi, Compsognathus longipes, Creratosaurus, and Sauropod. Stegosaurus was an iconic creature with plates rising from its back. It weighed around 180 pounds and standed two feet tall and four feet long. The illustration of Stegosaurus in the chapter is in subtle color, reflecting the style of artist and showing an animal without gaudy displays of color in contrast to its garish skeleton. Carnotaurus had an extended turtle-like beak that extended to the line of the tooth row. The Carnotaurus illustration reflects a renaissance of dinosaur art extrapolated to the point where art interfaces with science. Allosaurus fragilis is known from late Jurassic Kimmeridgean and Tithonian age in rocks of western North America and Tanzania. This theropod illustration represents the majority of remains taken from the Cleveland–Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, a famous national landmark located in east-central Utah.
