Abstract

This chapter focuses on the general theory of quadratic curves. The chapter reviews the formulas for the transformation of rectangular coordinates in the plane, and discusses the reduction to canonical form of the equation of a quadratic curve with center at the origin. Invariants and classification of quadratic forms in two variables is reviewed, and the test for degeneracy of a quadratic curve is discussed.
