Abstract

Most process equipment used today have some sort of computer control. The control can be as simple as a microchip that is dedicated to the unit and is not programmable all the way through full computer control via a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. There are two approaches to qualifying the computer portion of any unit. One is to include it in the equipment qualification; the second is to qualify it as a separate unit.
