Abstract

In this chapter we pull together the threads addressed throughout the book. We highlight how scholars new to the study of the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genomics can come to understand a great deal about this field through the lens of secondary findings. We highlight how the discourse on secondary findings has come to shape ELSI research and how the debate on secondary findings reflects a number of cultural trends that are central to other ELSI issues. We close by suggesting some future directions that the discourse on secondary findings might take in coming years.
