Abstract

Increasing demand in global energy resources has necessitated the need for a breakthrough in energy storage system development. The unique features of graphene make it appealing in energy storage applications. Outstanding performance in energy storage devices has been attributed to the remarkable properties of graphene such as large specific surface area, outstanding chemical stability, great mechanical adaptability, and exceptional electrical and thermal conductivity. These unique properties have made graphene a material of choice for electrodes in energy storage devices. Electrode of supercapacitors made from graphene-based materials has shown huge potential in storage applications. In this chapter, we discuss these unique characteristics of graphene when used as active material or as a component and its application in energy storage devices.
