Abstract

Biological wastewater technologies are highly efficient and cost-effective, and therefore widely used to remove chemical high-risk pollutants (cHRPs) from wastewater. In this chapter, we systematically introduced the biological transformation processes of cHRPs and the biological treatment technologies. In the past several decades, a lot of biological technologies for cHRPs and risk control have been invented and applied in engineering practices. These include conventional biological technology, biofiltration technology, membrane biotechnology, constructed wetland, and bioaugmentation technology. We summarized the characteristics of these technologies and their applications in the treatment and degradation of cHRPs. Furthermore, integration of these technologies could achieve better removal efficiency of cHRPs. In this chapter, a series of integrated technologies were also introduced and their characteristics and advantages were comprehensively reviewed. Such information is essential for the development of more advanced cHRP control technologies in the future.
