Abstract

The chapter presents various Open source tools for Linux and OpenVMS. The chapter describes BASH, which is the GNU Project's Bourne Again shell, a complete implementation of the POSIX.2 shell specification with interactive command-line editing. Corba enables natural interoperability regardless of platform, operating system, programming language, or network hardware and software. GIMP, a GNU Image Manipulation Program, is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for tasks such as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. GNUPG stands for GNU Privacy Guard and is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and create digital signatures. The OpenSSL project is a collaborative endeavor to develop a robust, commercial-grade, full-featured, Open Source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer and Transport Layer Security protocols, as well as a full-strength, general-purpose cryptography library managed by a worldwide community of volunteers who use Internet to communicate, plan, and develop the OpenSSL toolkit and its related documentation. PERL is a popular and powerful scripting language for Linux. Remote access dial-in user service (RADIUS), an authorization, authentication, and accounting client/server protocol is also described in the chapter.
