Abstract

Harnessing the opportunities offered by the development of miniaturized, smart, and multifunctional sensor devices in the form of wearable and implanted body sensor network (WIBSN), provides several technological as well as commercial benefits to the healthcare sector. Use of WIBSN in these applications highlights the need to consider several critical issues such as security and privacy. Indeed, Security and privacy lapses in the healthcare sector have serious reputational and financial impacts for the involved healthcare department as well as dramatic and even lethal consequences for patients depending on the type of the attack and the nature of the disclosed data. Accordingly, the main objective of this chapter is to give a thorough analysis of adoption of WIBSN in the healthcare sector by identifying the possible security and privacy threats as well as the associated countermeasures.
