Abstract

This chapter focuses on teachers and the revolutionary change in teaching methodologies in primary and elementary schools with rapid growth in technologies. Teachers for elementary and secondary schools are trained either in normal schools or teacher training colleges or in faculties of education. The teacher training colleges provide a 2-year program, following secondary school graduation, for those who wish to teach primary and elementary schools, while the faculties of education, located on university campuses, provide a variety of programs lasting from 2 to 5 years and enabling the graduate to teach either in elementary or secondary schools. To gain admittance to a teacher training college, students are required to complete a secondary school academic program. Many elementary teachers have been going on to further study, resulting in an increasing proportion of the elementary school teaching population having at least one university degree. The rapid growth in industrial and commercial technologies has necessitated schools that can provide training in technologies at levels beyond those obtained in secondary institutions.
