Abstract

Recent dramatic progress in the chemistry of stable (persistent and isolable) silylenes (divalent silicon species) reported since the year 2000 are summarized. Stable silylenes with the various substituents and the various coordination numbers around the divalent silicon atom have been available, which make their chemistry one of the most exciting and important research areas in silicon chemistry. In this chapter, the recent progress in the synthesis, molecular structure studies, and reactivity of stable silylenes including ligation for transition metal complexes are described.
