Abstract

Gas separation by membranes is one of the most intensively studied fields of separation processes. Among them, supported liquid membranes (SLMs) are considered to be highly selective and promising techniques. Using ionic liquids in preparing SLMs has numerous advantages in this particular area. This chapter summarizes the benefits of SLMs, the features of room temperature supported ionic liquid membranes, recent progress in and application possibilities for various gas separation purposes. The chapter includes a short section about theoretical considerations and then specific processes are presented.
