Abstract

SUMMARY Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) may be particularly well suited to the assessment and treatment of clinical difficulties related to the God image. REBT emphasizes helping clients to see how they create their own emotional reactions-including disturbed emotions related to God-by telling themselves certain things and how they can create more constructive and adaptive emotions by actively confronting absolutistic and evaluative thinking. This chapter summarizes a spiritually-oriented approach to REBT and then applies this approach to clinically-relevant concerns regarding God image. To illustrate God image change, a case example of treatment with a depressed and traumatized male is presented.
