Abstract

Life expectancy has increased substantially in both developed and under-developed countries in the last century. Old age has been known to come with losses, diseases, and some adversities, however, there are also gains such as experience, resilience, and wisdom. Successful aging has been a popular concept recently, but it has also been scrutinized for placing all the weight and burden on individuals’ shoulders. Social policy development regarding the social and economic conditions of elderly citizens is a necessity for wellbeing in late life as are personal measures that promote a healthy lifestyle, such as exercise, healthy nutrition, and social engagement.
