Abstract

Ceramics are inorganic, non-metallic solids with attractive properties compared to metals and polymers, which make them potential candidates for specific applications. However, their applications are underestimated and are believed to be important in pottery and tiles only. For the past few decades, ceramic industry has become the rapidly advancing industry in the world with its intervention in almost all fields of engineering and science. Piezoelectric ceramics are smart materials that upon mechanical deformation produces electrical signal. Piezoelectric ceramics have the advantage of shape flexibility and high polarization with desirable properties. Piezoelectric ceramics are widely used in electrical, electronic, biomedical, and electrochemical applications due to high voltage output. In this chapter, we demonstrate the overview of piezoelectric ceramics and describe their applications in electrochemical and electronic field. Moreover, the recent and continuous developments in the advanced field of piezo materials are also highlighted.
