Abstract

The nanogel has emerged as one of the most challenging nano-formulation for the pharmaceutical scientists especially regarding the applications of nanogels in the field of drug delivery. It has proven to be versatile drug delivery system, due to the possession of dual characteristics of hydrogels and nanoparticles. Chemically cross-linked nanogels have found wider applications and stable behavior when compared with physically cross-linked nanogels. Nanogels have been visualized as an ideal drug delivery system with enormous drug loading capacity, high stability, targeting to the particular site, multiresponse strategy, biological consistency, and response to a wide variety of environmental stimuli. This chapter focuses on different types of nanogel, along with the synthetic procedures, drug loading capacity, mechanism of drug release, and the most important recent applications of nanogels in different areas of drug delivery. An intensive study of clinical trials in the future will confirm nanogel as a suitable carrier for drug.
