Abstract
This chapter briefly describes the hydrosphere–biosphere system that evolved following the Paleoproterozoic Great Oxidation Event to promote the explosion of life after the Neoproterozoic Oxidation Event in the Cambrian period. The effect this had on metallogeny, particularly the development of widespread carbonate sedimentation in shallow basins, is also discussed.
