Abstract

In the last 20years, the research of metamaterials, especially in the fields of electromagnetism, acoustics, thermology, and mechanics, has achieved great progress. Varieties of creative microstructures were developed to achieve unusual properties that cannot be found in nature, such as negative refractive index, invisibility from detectors with electromagnetic waves or acoustic waves as the information medium, etc. These impressive products have a broad range of potential applications in both national defense and civil use. In recent decades, various additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, such as selective laser sintering (SLS), selective laser melting (SLM), stereolithography apparatus (SLA), and fused deposition modeling (FDM), were developed to aid the fabrication of complicated structures of different materials including ceramics, metals, and polymers. Furthermore, the forming efficiency and precision of AM technologies are also improving all the time, providing the best possible method to fabricate metamaterial samples and promote their application in various situations.
