Abstract

To fill the tail void effectively, backfill grouting is necessary, during which fresh grout mortar is pumped into the annular gap at the shield tail under certain pressure. This chapter presents the materials, common equipments, and technology of backfill grouting for shield tunnelling. First, the typical backfill grouting materials and performance demands are introduced. Then the composition, function, and design of backfill grouting equipment are explained detailed. After that, the optimal formulation of materials for backfill grouting is proposed with a multiobjective programming model to obtain an optimum performance. Finally, a case study is shown to illustrate how to select the appropriate grouting materials, equipments, and technology in actual engineering.
