Abstract

Nanocomposite coatings have significant product performance and cost-saving advantages in global automotive, construction, polymer, solar, glass, oil, and gas field. These types of coatings allow surface functionalization that can improve product longevity, surface strength, and specific properties, such as antimicrobial, self-healing, flame retardant, and gas barrier. The area of corrosion-protective and wear-protective coatings has been developed very fast owing to the massive economic impact of surface degradation on metallic structures. Uniformly distributed nanofillers within the matrix phase of the coatings produced new multifunctional coatings with improving properties and performances of the coatings. This chapter reviews the requirements of the coatings, coating methods, working principles, and recent examples of different types of important coatings for anticorrosion and antiwear applications. More emphasis was given to nanocomposite coating for anticorrosion and antiwear applications.
