Abstract

Nutrition profoundly influences health and aging. Over the last 90years, dietary manipulations have proven to be a robust intervention for delaying the onset of age-related disease and increasing life span across a wide range of species. However, the exact relationship between nutrition and aging is still not fully understood. In this chapter, we explore the roles of both calories and macronutrients in health and aging and further discuss the use of a unique unifying nutritional framework to resolve the question of how diet influences several outcomes that contribute to a long, healthy life.
