Abstract
The organs of the male reproductive system have a role in the production, maintenance, and transportation of sperm and semen to the female reproductive tract during sexual intercourse as well as the production and secretion of male sex hormones responsible for maintaining the male reproductive system. Andrology is defined as the branches of science and medicine dealing with male reproductive functions under physiological and pathological conditions. Central topics of andrology are infertility, hypogonadism, and erectile dysfunction. Although the science of male reproductive function and dysfunction has experienced significant progress in recent years, regenerative medicine has opened new avenues for treating patients with severe andrology disorders, such as congenital abnormalities, cancer, trauma, infection, inflammation, and iatrogenic injuries. Here we summarize advances in the use of cell, tissue, and organ-based regenerative medicine strategies for clinical application in male reproductive system disorders.
