Abstract

Robots are becoming ever more pervasive in our modern society. As such, research on human-robot interaction (HRI) has flourished. Within this domain, trust has been investigated in terms of its effects on human-to-robot partnership. Research on trust in HRI has highlighted the importance of individual difference variables, one of which is human personality. With few exceptions, however, the majority of research has not focused on the role of the human's personality in HRI. This chapter discusses the trust literature, specifically interpersonal trust, trust in automation, and trust in HRI. Therein, we highlight past findings on human personality (along with other individual differences and general attitudes influenced by experience) and its association with trust in HRI.
