Abstract

This chapter is divided into two parts: solar thermal electricity and solar insolation. The first part discusses concentrated solar power (CSP), its advantages, its principle and types of CSP technologies for generating electricity. The first part also describes the type and size of CSP systems used in different countries of the world. The second part includes solar insolation and solar radiation; the methods of measuring them using ground measurement and satellite images. Examples of ground instrument measurement and online databases for estimating solar radiation and solar insolation are also discussed.
