Abstract

The development of the field of power ultrasonics is strongly linked to the efficiency and power capacity of the wave generation systems known as power transducers. Applications have generally involved the fields of liquid and solid media. Little exploration has taken place into the development of suitable power ultrasonic systems in gas or multiphase media, not least due to the difficulty of efficiently generating and propagating in these media. More recently, however, a new family of power transducers with extensive plate radiators for efficient generation of ultrasonic energy in low-density fluid and multiphase media has been developed. This chapter describes the structure, design, characteristics, evaluation, and performance of these new transducers.
